EXEMPTED ARTICLES
Under the Cyprus Hallmarking Law the following articles are exempt from hallmarking.
1. An article which is intended for dispatch to a destination outside the Republic of Cyprus.
2. An article which is outside the Republic of Cyprus, or which is in course of consignment from outside the Republic of Cyprus to the assay office in Cyprus.
3. Any coin which is, or was formerly at any time, current coin in any country.
4. Any article which has been used, or is intended to be used, for medical, dental, veterinary, scientific or industrial purposes.
5. Any battered article fit only to be remanufactured.
6. Any article of gold or silver thread.
7. Any raw material (including any bar, plate, sheet, foil, rod, wire, strip or tube) or bullion.
8. Any manufactured article which is not substantially complete, and which is intended for further manufacture.
9. Any article -
a. which is of gold or partly from gold or silver, or gold and silver and all its gold parts are not less than 375 parts per thousand, and all its silver parts not less than 800 parts per thousand, and
b. which in either case was manufactured before the year 1900 and has not since the beginning of the year 1900 been the subject of any alteration which would be an improper alteration if it had previously borne approved hallmarks.
10. Any article which, in the opinion of the Assay Office, is fragile or for technical reasons cannot be hallmarked.
11. Subject to paragraph 12 of this part any musical instrument, where the description is applied to the mouthpiece, and the mouthpiece is of minimum fineness.
12. The paragraph 11 will not apply to any article in which solder is used unless that solder is of the standard of fineness required, under the relevant section of the Law, if the articles were to be hallmarked.
